"From October 21st to 24th, 2024, together with the ESRs team, I attended the 2nd Summer School in Athens, Greece, organized by the DECODE Project partner NKUA. This event offered a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) research while developing valuable industry-oriented skills.
The agenda was both comprehensive and well-structured. The first two days focused on the clinical and medical aspects of PAD, covering fundamental concepts and current treatment strategies. The interactive discussions with clinicians were particularly impactful, especially when addressing gaps in existing PAD treatments. Given my work on in-silico simulations of PAD interventions, these exchanges provided invaluable insights and practical ideas, effectively bridging the gap between engineering research and clinical practice.
The third day centered around a hackathon, challenging us to develop innovative solutions for real-world PAD problems. This collaborative exercise, combining diverse expertise from ESRs and clinicians, led to dynamic discussions and creative problem-solving.
On the final day, mock interviews with HR professionals offered essential guidance on transitioning from academia to industry. These sessions were especially relevant as we approach the conclusion of the DECODE project, providing practical advice on job-seeking strategies and industry expectations.
Overall, the 2nd Summer School not only broadened our knowledge of PAD but also promoted interdisciplinary collaboration and professional growth. We are grateful to the NKUA team for their hospitality and for organizing such a stimulating and enriching event!"
